Biography ::
Jonathan or Jon G was born in Quebec city and raised in the suburbs of Montreal where he currently lives and work. Already showing skills in oil painting at a young age, he graduated with an art degree in 2003 and eventually set aside his artistic work for over a decade to concentrate on a different career. Sometimes in 2016, the desire to create quality artwork from scratch and demonstrate to his 2 sons how rewarding it can be to make something with your hands, he embarked on a meaningful journey back into the art world. Since his come back, he's been creating beautiful floral acrylic pieces that, most of the time, are topped by a coat of resin for an emasculate and pristine look. His work was exposed in various events around Montreal, notably at the Expo-Concours de La Prairie in 2018 where he got the second prize.
Artist statement ::
I like to think of myself as an illustrator that can't get rid of his analogue process. In the last few years, I've created computer based illustrations that I would then bring to life on canvas or on wood panels. Lines are sharp and colours are opaque. My goal is to create intriguing compositions and mesmerizing colour schemes to bring out the beauty of the flowers depicted in my paintings. Why flowers? Well... with all the bad news and negative events that we are constantly bombarded with on the news and on social media, I feel like painting flowers is a form of protest, of rebellion. I wanna create beautiful imagery to bring something nice to your day if you're passing by a piece or to your life if you're owning one.
